PASSOVER
the Passover is one of the most popular jewish holiday.this 7 or 8 day festival celebrates the Hebrew slaves coming out of slavery in Egypt.the story goes that God called Moses out of the wilderness and told him to go back to Egypt and let the people go.Pharoh continualy refused to let the people go.to persuade Pharaoh into letting the people go God sent ten plagues.the Passover comes into picture during the 10th plague.the 10th plague was the death of the first born.through Moses God told his people to put lambs on the doorposts of their homes.the angel of darkness came into the unmarked houses and killed the first born.when the angel saw the ,marked houses he just passed over the house giving the holiday the Passover it's name.during the holiday this story is told during a meal rituial called the Passover Seder.this holiday comes with some food restrictions.during the Passover foods with leaven or foods with grain can not be eaten.

Rosh Hashanah is the jewish new year.it takes place 10 days before Yom Kippur.Rosh Hashanah means head of the year in Hebrew.jews believe that during the High Holy Days God decides who will live and who will die during the coming year.becuase of thid, during Rosh HaShanah and Yom KIppur the jews take the time to look inward,examien them selvesand repent for any sins.although Rosh Hashanah is filled with life and death their is hope for the new year,Rosh Hashanah is all about creating peace in the community and being a better person. during Rosh HaShanah people eat apples, honey and round loaves of challah. Apple slices dipped in honey are a symbol of hope for a sweet new year.Challah, which is usually baked into braids, is shaped into round loaves
of bread on Rosh HaShanah. The circular shape of Challah is a symbol of the continuation of life.

Hanukkah is a holiday that is celebrated for 8 days and for 8 nights.Hanukkah is the festival of lights.in Hebrew it means,dedication.during Hanukkah the jews celebration the re-dedication of the holy Temple in Jerusalem following the Jewish victory over the Syrian.Jewish troops decided to clean the Temple by burning ritual oil in the
Temple’s menorah for eight days. But, they discovered that there
was only one day's worth of oil left in the Temple. They lit the menorah anyway
and to their surprise tha small amount of oil lasted the full eight days.The miracle of the Hanukkah oil that is celebrated every year when Jews light a special menorah known as a hanukkiyah for eight days. One candle is lit on the first night of Hanukkah, two on the second, and the pattern continues like that, until eight candles are lit.

Some time around Febuary or March Purim.During Purim the jews celebrate their deliverance from out of their enemys hands.Purim is the name of the holiday because the wrongdoer of the story, Haman, cast the "pur" (the lot) against the Jews but because of queen Easter he failed to enialate them.some popular traditions of this holiday is to read the story of Purim and during this reading when ever Haman's name is called the people boo and make noise to show how much they hate him.Purim is kind of like a costume party,adults and children dress up as people from the story or just any other characters.

Tu B'Shvat is the jewish new year for trees.this holiday is mostly celebrated by jews who care a lot about the environment.they celebrate this holiday by donating money to an organization who plants trees in Israel.the also eat fruits from Israel such pomegranates and grapes.
