The Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar that the Muslims and many Islam countries use. It contains 12 months that are based on the motion of the moon.this means that the beginnings and endings of which are determined by the sighting of the crescent moon. Because 12 lunar months is only about 354 days, the Islamic calendar tends to be 11 Days shorter than a solar year.

RAMADAN
Each year, Muslims spend the ninth month of the Islamic calendar observing a community-wide fast. The annual fast of Ramadan is considered one of the five "pillars" of Islam.only Muslims who are physically able are required to fast each day of the entire month, from sunrise to sunset. the muslims believe that fasting is an act that gives a person a deeper and more personal worship time in which Muslims look for greater understanding of God. they also beleive Fasting is an exercise in self-control for the.Fasting for the Muslims is also about putting your self in the shoes of those who have nothing to eat.this is what Ramadan is all about. Ramadan begins with the sighting of the new moon. After this the eating and drinking stops. this goes from dawn to sunset. Although Ramadan is a profound month is also a joyful month. after the muslims break their fasting The evenings are spent enjoying family , speacial meals, and reading from the Quran.

Leylat al-Qadr and Ramadan are conneted.During the last ten days of Ramadan, Muslims seek and observe the Night of Power or Leyla al-Qadr. The Quran describes this night in a chapter named for it Tradition holds that the Night of Power is the night that the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. Muslims are instructed to "seek" the Night of Power during the last ten days of Ramadan, particularly on the odd nights for example the 23rd, 25th and 27th.Muslims worldwide spend the last ten nights of Ramadan in solid devotion by retreating to the mosque to read Quran , reciting special verses , and reflecting on the meaning of Allah's message to them. It is a time of intense spirituality, when the believers beleive that they are surrounded by angels, the gates of heaven are open, and God's blessings and mercy are abundant at this time.

EID AL-FITR
The Muslim holidays Leylat -al Qadr,Ramadan.and Eid al -Fitr are all connrcted.How? They are all in the Muslim month of Ramadan. At the end of Ramadan, the Muslims around the world celebrate the joyous three-day celebration called Eid al-Fitr or the Festival of Fast-Breaking.Eid al-Fitr starts on the first day of Shawwl, the month which follows Ramadan in the Islamic calendar. during this time muslims give to those in need.They also celebrate with family and friends the completion of a month of blessings and joy.Before the day of Eid, d each Muslim family gives an already determined amount as a donation to the poor. This donation is f actual food like rice.They do this to to ensure that the needy can have a holiday meal and participate in the celebration. On the day of Eid, Muslims gather early in the morning.They go to and outdoor locations or mosques to perform the Eid prayer. This includes of a sermon followed by a short congregational prayer.After this Muslims usually scatter to visit family members and friends.They give gifts but especially to children.They make phone calls to distant relatives and wish them a happy holiday. If you think of it,its kind od like Christmas.

HAJJ
Every year, millions of Muslims from around the world that are able to the make the journey go to Makkah, Saudi Arabia, for the annual pilgrimage or Hajj. Dressed in simple white clothing to represent the equality of all humans.the Muslims that at this time are called pilgrims gather to perform ceremonies dating all the way back to the time of Abraham.Hajj is not only a holiday.it is also considered one of the five "pillars" of Islam.this pillar requires Muslims to make the pilgrimage once in a lifetime.

At the end of the Hajj to Mecca Muslims throughout the world celebrate the holiday of Eid al-Adha which will last for three days.During the Hajj, Muslims remember and celebrate the trials and triumphs of the Prophet Abraham.The Muslims do this by slaughtering an animal such as a sheep, camel, or goat.
Most of the meat from the sacrifice of Eid al-Adha given away to others. One-third is eaten by immediate family and relatives, one-third is given away to friends, and one-third is donated to the poor. This act symbolizes their willingness to give up things that will benefit them, in order to follow Allah's commands.Just like the Prophet Abraham is beleived to have done. On the first morning of Eid al-Adha, Muslims worldwide attend morning prayers at their local mosques. Prayers are followed by visits with family and friends, and the exchange of greetings and gifts. At some point during this , members of the family will visit a local farm or make arrangements for the slaughter of an animal. The meat is distributed during the days of the holiday afterwards.
