THE FIVE PILLARS OF ISLAM
The five pillars of islam are the five things that make up a Muslims life and are things every muslim must complete during their lifetime.

Shahadah (faith)
This is the first pillar of Islam.it is basicaly a declaration of faith.In this you confess that There is no god worthy of worship except God and Muhammad is His messenger.you do this by reading this creed."There is no God but God and Muhammad is the Messenger of God."

Salah (prayer)
This is the second pillar of Islam.In this pilliar you are saying that you have a direct relationship with God.Muslims pray 5 times a day.they pray at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset and evening.in addition to these 5 prayers a friday service is mandatory.during these prayer you turn so you are facing Makkah which is Islam's holiest city.although is sugested to pray in a mosque Muslims pray almost everywhere.

Zakat (wealth and God)
This is the third pillar and it basically says that all wealth belongs to God.in this pilliar a muslim gives 2.5 percent of all the money they earn in a year.the Muslims beleive that their possesions are purified through giving a portion to the ones less fortunate.

Sawm (fasting)
This is the fourth pillar and it is fasting particuraly during the Islam holy month of Ramadan. Said in the Holy Qur'an, fasting is an act that gives a person a deeper and more personal worship time in which Muslims look for greater understanding of God. Fasting is also an exercise in self-control for the Muslims.Fasting for the Muslims is also about putting your self in the shoes of those who have nothing to eat. Ramadan is the month during which the Holy Qur'an was shown to the Prophet Muhammad and begins with the sighting of the new moon. After this the which eating and drinking stops. this goes from dawn to sunset. Although Ramadan is a profound month is also a joyful month. Muslims break their fasting at sunset with a special meal called iftar.Muslims perform additional nocturnal worship called the tarawih.

Hajj (pilgrimage)
This is the fifth pillar and it is the pilgrimage to Makkah, Islams most holy city.the Muslims beleive it to be the most significant profession of Islamic faith . For those Muslims who are physically and/or financially unable to make the journey to Makkah, the Hajj is a once in a lifetime duty missed.
