When jews first came to America the role of a jewish woman was to take care of the house.if the woman had children she was expected to teach them right from wrong.the woman were rarely seen.now and days women have basically the same rights as men.The father traditionally is the head of the family, but this is slowly changing as responsibilities of the father and the mother are becoming equal. Among older generations, men are the main breadwinners and women are the homemakers.the new generation has changed that, with parenting and housekeeping tasks performed by both parents. In ultra-Orthodox families, women are responsible for financially providing for the family because their husbands may earn only a modest sallery while studying in a kollel, or institute for learning the Talmud, Torah, and other Jewish texts in more depth. Both the husband and wife work in most families. for the most part women are guaranteed equal rights to men.despite this salary inequality and domestic abuse are common.
In Judaism, children are taught to obey the commandment to honor and
respect their parents.Parents are often very busy during the week and expect their children to help
around the house with things such as chores when they grow older. Ultra-Orthodox parents expect their children to take on more responsibility.Family relation ships remain very strong, even as children become adults. Some children may stay home and live with parents while attending colledge. Most single Israelis in their mid- to late twenties
move out of their parents' home but live near parents or other relatives. Adult children are expected to care for their aging parents. hence the command honor your mother and father.
